FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine, surgery, self-retaining sutures, methods of suturing and production thereof. Self-retaining suture system comprises a suture and a needle, where the suture has a first end for penetrating tissue, an elongated suture body having a periphery； a plurality of retainers on the periphery, and a second end having a variable loop of variable circumference. Variable loop includes a fixed loop slidably engaging the elongated body for slidingly varying the circumference of the variable loop. First end may pass through the variable loop to secure tissue as an anchor, the anchor preventing movement of the suture in the direction of deployment of the first end. Suture method comprises passing the elongated suture body through a fixed loop to form a variable loop having an initial diameter, inserting the needle into the patient's tissue at a first tissue location； retrieving the needle from the tissue at a second location； holding the needle and at least a portion of the elongated suture body through the variable loop； inserting the needle into a third location of the tissue. System is produced by forming a plurality of notches on the suture to provide a plurality of tissue retainers, passing the first end of the suture to penetrate the tissue through the fixed loop to thereby form a loop with a variable circumference. First end of the suture is passed through the loop with variable circumference, providing a ready-to-pack suture that is placed in a package, attaching the needle to the end to penetrate the tissue, the diameter of the needle being greater than the diameter of the fixed loop.EFFECT: inventions prevent tearing off of the suture from the loop at the attachment site in which it is connected to the suture body, preventing the fabric from being caught at the attachment point and passage of the first end of the suture through the fixed loop, which enables to maintain a variable loop of a larger size, faci
