The present invention addresses the shortcomings of sensitivity and event discrimination of known bite detection devices used in angling. Accordingly, there is provided a bite detector mechanism (1) comprising an electrical generator (2) comprising a rotor (9) connected to an actuator (3) having means for attachment to a line (4), wherein, when in use, longitudinal movement of the line (4) causes the actuator (3) to impart rotational movement to the rotor (9) and thereby generate an electrical signal proportional to the amplitude of the longitudinal movement of the line (4).
