The atherectomy and thrombectomy system includes a catheter body that extends between a proximal catheter portion and a distal catheter portion. A suction lumen extends within the catheter body. An atherectomy assembly is coupled to the catheter tip and includes a rotary cutter. A thrombectomy assembly is coupled to the catheter tip. The thrombectomy assembly includes a propellant within the aspiration lumen and an inflow orifice and an outflow orifice that extend through the catheter body and communicate with the aspiration lumen. In the thrombectomy configuration, a circulating flow is generated by the propellant through the outflow orifice and the inflow orifice to hydrodynamically detach the thrombus, which entraps the thrombus and sends the thrombus into the aspiration lumen.
