PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize antimicrobial efficacy of two or more antimicrobial materials in a coating by controlling geometric parameters of a pattern of the antimicrobial materials in the coating at multiple scales of magnitude.SOLUTION: In a method for producing an antimicrobial coating, one or more first antimicrobial materials are applied onto a substrate surface, like one or more first patterns, and then one or more second antimicrobial materials are applied onto the substrate surface, like one or more second patterns disposed in almost adjacent relationship with respect to one or more first patterns of the first antimicrobial material.
