A switch actuation control mechanism for an electrosurgical instrument having a pair of opposing jaw members adapted to connect to a source of electrosurgical energy for treating tissue, comprising:a switch moveable between an activated position to initiate delivery of electrosurgical energy from the source of electrosurgical energy to the pair of opposing jaw members and a deactivated position to terminate delivery of electrosurgical energy from the source of electrosurgical energy to the pair of opposing jaw members；a switch activation member moveable between an actuated position and an unactuated position to selectively move the switch between the activated position and the deactivated position； anda switch control member configured to maintain the switch in the activated position during a portion of movement of the switch activation member from the actuated position to the unactuated position.
