A stake (1), for growing vines, with a protruding mid section (34) is described. The protruding mid section is designed to maximise the amount of air and sun received by the foliage of the vines. The stake (1) comprises a base (2) and a body (3) with a protruding mid section (34) with two arc sections (32, 33) and a section that connects the mid section to the base (31). The stakes can be placed in series and interconnected with wires which provide support for plants, e.g. grape vines, growing between the stakes.
