The present invention relates to a method for treating cancer by means of increasing the nuclear localization of the COMMD1 protein, which is associated with the reduction or blocking of cancer cell proliferation. The invention likewise relates to the use of agents that increase the nuclear localization of the COMMD1 protein in the manufacture of a drug for cancer therapy. Said agents can be peptides or proteins, among other compounds. The invention additionally relates to the optimization of a peptide, from the sequence HARIKPTFRRLKWKKYKGKFW, in order to increase the nuclear localization of the COMMD1 protein, and thus increase the tumor-fighting effect of said peptide.
