An orthopedic screw for reducing a malleolus bone fracture that includes aunitaryshaft with screw threads on a distal end of the shaft and a head on a proximalend. An enlargedterminal end segment of the head includes a socket for receiving a tooladapted for rotating thescrew into aligned fibula and malleolus bone fragments at the fracture site.First and secondspaced-apart tapered transition segments are formed at a juncture of the shaftand head and ajuncture of the head and an enlarged terminal end segment of the head the suchthat rotation ofthe screw provides progressively increased fracture-reducing pressure betweenthe fibula andmalleolus bone fragments as the first and second tapered transition segmentsdrives the malleolusagainst the fibula. A method of using the screw for reducing a malleolus bonefracture is alsodisclosed.
