The present invention relates to an electric wheelchair brake system capable of controlling a speed of a motor through a dynamic brake in a free-wheel mode of an electric wheelchair, and a control method thereof. The electric wheelchair brake system comprises a motor idly rotating when an electric wheelchair rolls down on a slope, a motor driver determining that the electric wheelchair is in a free-wheel mode when the motor driver is operated by counter electromotive force generated by the idle rotation of the motor, and driving a dynamic brake, a power consuming unit consuming counter electromotive force by the motor driver, and a speed control unit controlling a speed of the motor such that a consumed amount of counter electromotive force is uniformly maintained.본 발명은 전동휠체어의 프리휠 모드 시 다이나믹 브레이크를 통해 모터의 속도를 제어하는 전동휠체어 브레이크 시스템 및 그 제어 방법에 관한 것으로, 본 발명의 전동휠체어 브레이크 시스템은 전동휠체어가 경사로를 밀려 내려감으로써 공회전하는 모터, 모터의 공회전으로 발생되는 역기전력에 의해 작동됨에 따라 전동휠체어가 프리휠 모드임을 판별하고, 다이나믹 브레이크를 구동시키는 모터 드라이버, 모터 드라이버에 의해 역기전력을 소모시키는 전력소모부, 소모된 역기전력의 양이 일정하게 유지되도록 모터의 속도를 제어하는 속도제어부를 포함한다.
