The bone positioning guide can include a body member, a shaft, and a bone engaging member. The bone engaging member can have a surface configured to engage the bone. The body member can also include a tip opposite the bone engaging member for engaging the second bone. In use, the bone engaging member can be positioned in contact with the inside of the first metatarsal while the tip is positioned in contact with the side of a different metatarsal, such as the second metatarsal. Thereafter, the shaft can be moved to advance the bone engaging member toward the tip, and the first metatarsal bone can be realigned.
