The present invention discloses methods of using peptides and analogs thereof in the treatment of acute pancreatitis. The disclosed peptides and analogs significantly reduce the elevation of blood amylase and lipase levels caused by acute pancreatitis, reduce the degree of damage observed in pancreatic histopathology caused by pancreatitis, and by acute pancreatitis. Mortality can be significantly reduced.
