The invention relates to a hand-held device (1) for apportioned delivery ofsprayablesubstances, in particular inhaler medicaments, having a cartridge (3) which isdisplaceable bypressing in a housing (2) into the open position for delivery, and an indexingmechanism (11)which is moved along by the cartridge during the opening stroke of thecartridge (3) forregistering and displaying delivery actuations which have been carried out,which indexingmechanism (11) is disposed in a housing (34) centrally below the opening-sideend wall of thecartridge (3), overlappingly with respect to the valve tube (5) of thecartridge. In order toconfigure a hand-held device of the type in question in a spatiallyadvantageous manner with asimplified construction and such that it is more reliable in terms ofhandling, it is proposed todisplace plate-shaped housing (34) as a whole with the cartridge, except for astep-by-stepindexing finger star (S) disposed therein.
