<；P>；PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel means for creating a tobamovirus-resistant plant by cloning a tobamovirus-resistant L-gene. <；P>；SOLUTION: L3 has been found to be included in two BAC contigs (5 clones in total) or in an unknown their intermediate region using a BAC library of Capsicum chinense having an L3-resistant gene. L3 gene has been identified by subcloning the DNA fragments of resistant gene-like sequences numerously existing in this region and by using sequence analysis and functional analysis. Further, other L-genes have also been identified on the basis of the sequence of the gene.
