PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus improving the quality of a cross-sectional image by correcting the distortion of a gradient magnetic field.
SOLUTION: The magnetic resonance imaging apparatus includes: magnetostatic field coils 2a and 2b stored in a container 2c to form a magnetostatic field in an imaging area 8 a gradient magnetic field main coil to form a gradient magnetic field in the imaging area 8 a gradient magnetic field shield coil to inhibit the gradient magnetic field from leaking to the outside of the imaging area an eddy current correction coil for correcting the magnetic field generated from the eddy current originated from the leaking magnetic field and a control device 11 for controlling the electric current distributed to the eddy current correction coil to temporally vary when the magnetostatic field is formed by the magnetostatic field coils 2a and 2b. The control device 11 controls the electric current to be distributed to the eddy current correction coil as synchronized with the pulse current distributed to the gradient magnetic field coil GMC.
