An applicator instrument for providing a surgical fastener includes a housing, an elongate shaft, and an elongate conduit extending through the elongate shaft. A launch system is located within the housing. The firing system has an insertion tool having a top surface extending at its proximal and distal ends, and a stripper ramp protruding above the top surface. The actuator activates the firing system to initiate a firing cycle. During the firing cycle, the firing system drives the insertion tool toward the distal end of the elongate shaft. The elongated conduit has a top wall with a top notch formed therein.
