A method for repositioning separated portions 300 of a web 100 machine directionally offset to the same web 100 comprising providing a continuous web 100 with longitudinally extending side margins 104, 106 and separation, transfer, guide and combination units 200, 500, 400, 600, feeding the web 100 to the separation unit 200, separating portions 300 of the web 100 in predetermined regions such that the web 100 remains continuous along one of the side margins 104, 106, transferring the portions 300 to the transfer unit 500, feeding the web 100 via the guide unit 400 to the combination unit 600, transferring the portions 300 from the transfer unit 500 to the combination unit 600 and combining the portions 300 with the web 100 such that they are positioned machine directionally offset relative to the predetermined regions. The portions 300 may be combined with the web 100 such that they are cross-directionally offset relative to the predetermined regions. A further material, which may be a web, may be provided; it may be combined with the portions 300 or the web 100 such that it contacts either or both of the materials. The portions 300 may be connected to the web 100 and/or further material by melt fusion bonds, more specifically, ultrasonically formed bonds. Also disclosed is an apparatus comprising web supply, separation, transfer, guide and combination units 110, 200, 500, 400, 600. The guide unit 400 allows for an extended path of the web 100 compared to the path of the portions 300. The method may be used to manufacture hygiene articles.
