Disclosed herein is a transdermal composition comprising: S-ibuprofen in an amount between about 1% and about 30% by weight of the composition； hydroxypropyl cellulose； a pharmaceutically acceptable non-volatile solvent； water； and isopropyl myristate； with the proviso that the apparent pH is not 7.0. Also disclosed is the use of the composition for the treatment of pain and inflammation.
