The present invention relates to a wound dressing composition for use as a wound dressing and a method for producing the wound dressing composition. The wound dressing composition consists of a wicking material and an absorbent fiber material that is punched into the wicking material. The action of punching the absorbent material into the wicking material significantly increases the absorption rate of the composite material.
