A low cost and contactless stationary temperature instrument (101). A stationary temperature instrument (101) comprises a red LED and a thermopile sensor which are visibly embedded in a half mirror surface. A person to be measured views his or her face in the half mirror. In doing so, the person adjusts the distance between the half mirror and his or her face so that the red LED, which is emitting light and is located at the center of his or her forehead and so that the position of the red LED ON the forehead coincides with the thermopile sensor. The position at which the thermopile sensor and the point ON the forehead which is illuminated by the red LED coincide with each other represents a positional relationship determined by the temperature instrument (101) to allow temperature measurement. In this state, the thermopile sensor captures infrared light emitted from the forehead of the person to be measured and a microcomputer calculates the body surface temperature or the body temperature.
