The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating obesity comprising bentonite which is clay mineral as an effective component. An effect of inhibiting adipose differentiation was confirmed in 3T3-L1 which is a preadipocyte cell through bentonite. Also, body weight loss, body fat reduction, leptin blood concentration decrease and body lipid emission effects were confirmed in an animal model where obesity is induced by high fat diet.
