The present invention to provide an absorbent article improved so that the wearer can visually recognize graphics adapted to change in the course of exchanging the soiled diaper with the fresh one. A rear waist region 6 of a diaper 1 is provided with a waist region elastic member 3 attached thereto under tension and the waist region elastic member 3 is formed with a plurality of slits 16 each extending in a longitudinal direction Y and extending through this elastic member 3 in a thickness direction thereof. The waist region elastic member 3 is stretched in a transverse direction X as the diaper 1 is put on the wearers body and thereupon the slits 16 are opened up to form respective through-holes 27. A first graphics display region 23 formed in combination with the slits 16 includes note stems and note tails, each of these note stems being contiguous to the associated through-holes 27 so that, when the slits 16 are opened up to form the through-holes 27, these through-holes 27 may be recognized as respective note heads and thereby the complete musical notes may be formed. In the area nearer a crotch region 7 than the first graphics display region 23, a second graphics display region 24 is formed in which a character playing an instrument is displayed. The first and second graphics display regions 23, 24 cooperate to each other so that the article wearer may be given a visual scene as if the musical notes appearing in the first graphics display region 23 are popped up from the instrument played by the character.
