The holder has a cup-shaped base plate (2) manufactured from a translucent material e.g. glass or plastic. Surface coating (6) on an outer side (14) of the base plate is translucent. A recess (4) is provided in the surface coating for retaining a water gauge (5). Water level in the holder is observed when light passes through the wall of the holder. The surface coating adapts to the surrounding of the holder. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a plant pot holder.
