An aqueous composition is provided which comprises a) from 0.6 to 30 weight percent, based on the total weight of the aqueous composition, of an esterified cellulose ether comprising aliphatic monovalent acyl groups and groups of the formula - C(O) - R - COOA, R being a divalent hydrocarbon group and A being hydrogen or a cation, wherein the total degree of ester substitution is from 0.03 to 0.70, b) a tonicity-adjusting agent, and c) an aqueous diluent.Linvention concerne une composition aqueuse qui comprend a) de 0,6 à 30 % en poids, sur la base du poids total de la composition aqueuse, dun éther de cellulose estérifié qui comprend des groupes acyle monovalents aliphatiques et des groupes de formule C(O) - R - COOA, R étant un groupe hydrocarboné divalent et A étant hydrogène ou un cation, le degré total de substitution dester étant compris entre 0,03 et 0,70, b) un agent dajustement de la tonicité, et c) un diluant aqueux.
