An object information acquisition apparatus includes: a probe receiving an acoustic wave generated from an object and to output a signal; a scanning unit scanning the object with the probe by changing a position of the probe relative to the object; a control unit controlling execution of acoustic wave measurement on the object; and an information acquiring unit acquiring characteristic information on the object by using the signal, wherein the control unit executes first acoustic wave measurement and second acoustic wave measurement for a predetermined region of the object, and the first acoustic wave measurement is executed within a shorter period of time than the second acoustic wave measurement, and the information acquiring unit acquires displacement information indicating displacement of the object by using a first signal acquired by the first acoustic wave measurement and a second signal acquired by the second acoustic wave measurement.
