This invention relates to an herbal composition for growth and development consisting of extracts of Withania somnifera, Embilica officinalis, Bacopa monniera, Zingiber officinalis. Piper longum. Piper nigrum, Alpinia galanga, and Foeniculam vulgare. Extracts of the plants may be obtained by treating the plant material with pharmaceutically acceptable solvents or by steam distillation followed by concentration of the extract. The compositions of the invention are useful for the treatment or prophylaxis of diseases or conditions, which are characterized by decreased appetite, endurance and cognitive functions.
