Provided is a tomato plant, fruit, fragment or extract thereof for use in a method for preventing weight gain, and/or inhibiting, preventing or ameliorating a disease condition associated with adipogenesis in a mammal, wherein the tomato is a ripening-impaired mutant tomato, such as a ripening inhibitor (rin), nonripening (nor), and/or never ripe (Nr) gene mutant tomato.
