A microfluidic radiopharmaceutical synthesis system comprising a reaction vessel adapted to receive a radioisotope and at least one reagent, the reaction vessel being in heat-transfer communication with a heat source, where when the radioisotope and the at least one reagent are mixed in the reaction vessel and heat is applied to the reaction vessel from the heat source, a radiopharmaceutical solution is synthesized, a solid-phase extraction column adapted to purify the radiopharmaceutical solution, a filter adapted to sterilize the radiopharmaceutical solution, and a vessel adapted to receive the radiopharmaceutical solution following its passage through the solid-phase extraction column and the filter. The system is scaled to produce per run a quantity of purified radiopharmaceutical solution approximately equal to, but no less than, one (1) unit dose of radiopharmaceutical.
