Systems, methods and cartridges for carbonating or otherwise dissolving gas ina precursorliquid, such as water, to form a beverage. A gas source (41) can be providedin a cartridge(4) which is used to generate gas that is dissolved into the precursor liquid.A beveragemedium (42), such as a powdered drink mix or liquid syrup, may be provided inthe same, ora separate cartridge as the gas source (4) and mixed with the precursor liquidto form abeverage. The use of one or more cartridges for the gas source (4) and/orbeverage medium(42) may make for an easy to use and mess-free system for making sparklingbeverages, e.g.,in the consumers home.
