Embodiments match the mass spectrometer test data with mass spectrometer reference data of the selected subset of the sample reference library. Embodiments determine characteristic information of a source of the mass spectrometer test data (e.g. the medical patient) based on the known characteristics of the matched mass spectrometer reference data.
