Disclosed are methods and devices for forming holes (17a, 17b) through the side walls of a catheter. The method includes providing a section of the catheter between a pair of tubular punching members 6 and punching through the side wall 23 of the catheter, thereby separating a pair of opposingly located hole pieces from the side wall. A projecting portion for driving at least one of the pair of tubular punching members toward the other and for pushing the separated hole piece away from the catheter through the lumen of the tubular punching member； 7 and operating the pair of tubular punching members.
