PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire satisfactory information in a device for using an acoustic wave occurring due to a photoacoustic effect to acquire information of a subject.SOLUTION: The subject information acquisition device includes a light source 101a, a light absorption member 16 for absorbing light irradiated from the light source, and generating a transmission ultrasonic wave that is a plane wave, detection elements 20, 21 for receiving an acoustic wave and outputting an electric signal, and an information processing part 103 for acquiring characteristic information of a subject by using the electric signal.
