A hair conditioning composition is provided to inhibit rapid absorption of composition into the hair and reduce loss of composition by improving viscosity of the composition, so that use convenience and hair-conditioning effects including hair-softening, hair damage reduction and electrostatic prevention are enhanced. A hair conditioning composition comprises (1) 15-70 wt.% of polyalcohol or its polymer, (2) 15-70 wt.% of lower alcohol having carbon number of less than 6 or polar organic solvent, (3) 0.2-10 wt.% of oil component, (4) 0.1-10 wt.% of electrostatic preventing agent and (5) 0.2-3 wt.% of alcohol soluble viscosity increasing agent selected from hydroxy propyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl guar; the polyalcohol or its polymer is ethyleneglycol, propyleneglycol, 1,3-butyleneglycol, isoprene glycol, glycerol, diethylene glycol, dipropylene glycol, diglycerol, polyethylene glycol, ethyleneglycolmonoethylether, diethyleneglycolmonoethylether or diethyleneglycolmonomethylether; the electrostatic preventing agent is a single or a mixture of quaternary ammonium and tertiary amidoamine; and the composition has viscosity of 100-25,000 cP at 25 deg.
