The present invention relates to a skin whitening composition containing an extract of Rhododendron molle (Blume) G. Don as an active ingredient. The extract of Rhododendron molle (Blume) G. Don exhibits high antioxidant activity, inhibits activity of tyrosinase, and controls synthesis of melanin. Moreover, the extract inhibits synthesis of melanin more excellently than ascorbic acid, the prior whitening agent, does when the extract is applied to a B16F1 melanoma cell including &alpha；-MSH. Therefore, the skin whitening composition can be widely used as a safe and effective whitening agent.본 발명은 황두견화 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 피부 미백용 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 상기 황두견화 추출물은 높은 항산화능을 보이며 티로시나제 활성을 억제하여 멜라닌 합성을 조절할 뿐 아니라 α-MSH를 함유한 B16F1 흑색종(melanoma) 세포에 처리할 경우에도 기존 미백제인 아스코르브산보다 멜라닌 합성을 억제하는 효과가 뛰어나므로, 안전하고 효과적인 미백제로서 널리 사용할 수 있다.
