A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system, comprising: two separate static magnetic field generating units (10) which are each cylindrical and are axially aligned, and are separated by a rotary load—bearing structure (20) arranged to freely rotate about an axis (A—A) of a static magnetic field generated by the static magnetic field generating units (10). The rotary load—bearing structure is mounted on thrust bearings (22) which take an axial load between the static magnetic field generating units (10).
