PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protector capable of reliably preventing leakage and scattering of blood from the protector when discarding a puncture tool after the end of blood collection or blood transfusion or the like, and further reducing contamination and infection or the like by blood, and to provide the method for using the protector.SOLUTION: The protector 1 is used by being mounted on a puncture tool 50, is movable along the longitudinal direction of a tube 53, and includes: an outer cylinder 2 having an outer cylinder body part 3 with a lumen 4 formed to house the puncture tool 50, a holding part 5 for holding a hub 52 inside the lumen 4, and an inclined part 8 formed on the proximal end side of the holding part 5 such that the inner diameter of the lumen 4 is gradually reduced toward the holding part 5 and an inner cylinder 9 having an inner cylinder body part 10 held on the proximal end side of the outer cylinder 2 and movable in a distal end direction, and an extension part 12 extending in the distal end direction of the outer cylinder 2 from the distal end side of the inner cylinder body part 10.
