PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical image processing apparatus and a medical image processing method which can reduce a computational quantity and simultaneously secure positioning accuracy of an image.SOLUTION: A medical image processing apparatus 1 includes an acquisition part 11, an extraction part 12, a calculation part 13 and an identification part 14. The acquisition part acquires a first captured image and a second captured image containing a tree structure of a subject. The extraction part extracts a branch point of the tree structure of each of the first captured image and the second captured image. The calculation part calculates the degree of similarity between the branch point of the first captured image and the branch point of the second captured image on the basis of a feature quantity of the branch point. The identification part identifies a corresponding pathway between the branch point of the first captured image and the branch point of the second captured image on the basis of the similarity between the branch points calculated by the calculation part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
