PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for controlling the expansion of a needle by using visual feedback from an ultrasonic image or another image.SOLUTION: A needle 24 is expanded in a bio-tissue under direct ultrasonic or other imaging. To aid in expanding the needle, a visual needle guide is projected onto the image prior to needle expansion. Once the needle guide is properly aligned, the needle can be expanded. After the needle is expanded, a safety boundary and a medical treatment region are projected onto a screen 18. After the safety boundary and the medical treatment region are confirmed proper, the patient can be treated using the needle. A system 10 for expanding the needle in a bio-tissue comprises a probe 14 and a system control device 12.
