Disclosed herein are methods for the prevention and treatment of Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD), particularly acute GVHD, including GVHD associated with hematopoeitc stem cell transplantation (HSCT), by administering HMGB1-interacting heparinoids to a subject at risk for, or suffering from, GVHD.
