Embodiments relate to an apparatus and method for tracking the location of surgical tools in a three-dimensional space based on a two-dimensional image. The method includes a step of allowing an imaging device to photograph a surgical tool comprising a physical marker frame comprising three or more marker bands, a step of allowing an information processing device to detect a center point in the image photographed for each of the marker bands； and a step of allowing the information processing device to estimate the three-dimensional position of the surgical tool based on a distance between the center point in the detected image and the center point of each actual marker band. It is possible to determine the reference point of the surgical tool.실시예들은 촬영장치로, 3개 이상의 마커밴드로 구성된 물리적 마커 프레임을 포함하는 수술도구를 촬영하는 단계, 정보 처리장치로, 촬영된 영상 상기 각 마커밴드에 대한 상기 영상 내 중점을 검출하는 단계 및 정보 처리장치로, 상기 검출된 영상 내 중점과 실제 마커밴드 각각의 중점간 거리를 기초로 상기 수술도구의 3차원 위치를 추정하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 방사선 영상 기반의 수술도구 위치 추적 방법 및 이를 위한 추적 장치에 관련된다.
