PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an embolic protection device that can be withdrawn from a patient so that captured particles are not dispersed by an embolic filter.SOLUTION: An embolic protection device 10 includes an expandable and contractible filter 20 that can be supported by one or more struts 22. The struts can be connected to the filter or interwoven into the filter to assist in the expansion and contraction of the filter.
