PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable engine work machine capable of improving users operability and safety by unifying an operation amount of a throttle lever in starting change of engine output from an idle state, regardless of a setting state of a valve opening adjustment mechanism.SOLUTION: A portable engine work machine includes a tension link 131 rotatably supported near a front end portion of a throttle lever 120, having a cable connecting portion 131 to which a throttle cable 110 is connected, and a contact face 131c on which operating force of the throttle lever 120 is acted, and making a motion for tensing the throttle cable 110 by operation of the throttle lever 120. A tensile amount of the throttle cable 110 tensed by the operation of the throttle lever 120 having a predetermined operation amount, is adjusted by changing a ratio of a distance D2 between a center of rotation of the tension link 131 and the cable connecting portion 131a, and a distance D1 between the center of rotation of the tension link 131 and a contact part with an engagement pin 120d, of the contact face 131c.
