The present invention provides a one pot process for the preparation of 11, 12-dehydrodeoxyartemisnin.Aretemisnin is reduced to dihydroartemisnin with NaBH4 in presence of a cationic exchanger in aprotic solvents.The product prepared is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of antimaiarials.The compound formed is a potential antimalarial.
