The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, treating or alleviating multiple sclerosis comprising a Glycyrrhiza uralensis extract or fractions thereof as an active component. The Glycyrrhiza uralensis extract or fractions according to the present invention inhibits the production of nitric oxide, proinflammatory cytokines, and chemokines, and thus by reducing a ratio of T1, Tc1, Th17, Tc17, Tbet, and cell adhesion molecules, it is confirmed to exhibit an effect of inhibiting the inflammatory response induced in T-cell, microglia, and mouse multiple sclerosis models.
