One embodiment of the present invention is an illumination apparatus comprising first and second wavelength conversion members which absorb part of excitation light and emits first and second wavelength-converted light, and a holder which holds the wavelength conversion members. The holder includes a holder incidence portion which the excitation light enters, a holder emission portion which emits the first and second wavelength-converted light, and a through hole extending from the holder incidence portion to the holder emission portion. A reflector is formed on an inner surface of the through hole to reflect the first and the second wavelength-converted light. At least two regions of an equal light distribution angle emission region where light distribution angles of light emitted from within a predetermined region are substantially equal and a light distribution angle varying emission region where light distribution angles are different, are present in a region surrounded by the reflector. The first and second wavelength-converted light whose light distribution angles are substantially equal are emitted by disposing both a substantial light emission point of the first wavelength conversion member and a substantial light emission point of the second wavelength conversion member in the equal light distribution angle emission region.
