PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blue phosphorescent metal complex for an organic electroluminescent element that is high in luminous efficiency, low in drive voltage, long in life, and excellent in long-term stability, and further has wet process production aptitude, and a host material suitable for the blue phosphorescent metal complex.SOLUTION: In an organic electroluminescent element, an organic layer including at least a light emitting layer is held between an anode and a cathode. At least one layer of the organic layer contains: a blue phosphorescent organic metal complex in which a ligand having an imidazole group is coordinated; and a compound represented by the following general formula (H1).
