PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus of modulating the brain's intrinsic respiratory activity to affect both aspects of respiration.SOLUTION: There is provided means for treating breathing disorders by stimulating respiratory muscles or respiratory nerves to modulate respiratory systems while leaving respiratory drive intact. Embodiments employ frequency analysis to determine whether appropriate stimulation energy is being applied.
