Uncoated particles of reversed cubic phase or reversed hexagonal phasematerial containing an active disposed within are provided. The uncoatedparticles have an ionic charge that is sufficient to stabilize them indispersion in a liquid, e.g. a polar solvent. The active that is disposedwithin the particles may be, for example, a pharmaceutical or nutriceuticalcompound. The invention also contemplates drug formulations containingreversed hexagonal and reversed cubic phases that can be applied tosignificantly increase the duration of action of the drug and/or provide thesame duration and efficiency at a significantly lower dose.
