Provided is a comfortable and discrete device wearable by a patient to restore balance and gait. The device re-establishes the sensorimotor loop by providing the patient with a secondary signal to healthy nerves around the knee to alert the patient that the patients heel has just struck the ground. In this regard, the device monitors the patients leg movements to detect when the patients heel strikes the ground and sends the secondary signal, i.e., vibrotactile stimulation, in response to the detected heel strike. The central nervous system incorporates the new signal and the motor system responds as if there is not loss of sensation in the foot and returns to its normal gait.Linvention concerne un dispositif confortable et discret pouvant être porté par un patient pour restaurer léquilibre et la marche. Le dispositif ré-établit la boucle sensori-motrice en fournissant au patient un signal secondaire aux nerfs sains autour du genou afin dalerter le patient que le talon du patient vient de frapper le sol. Ainsi, le dispositif contrôle les mouvements de jambe du patient afin de détecter le moment où le talon du patient frappe le sol et envoie le signal secondaire, à savoir une stimulation vibrotactile, en réponse au coup de talon détecté. Le système nerveux central incorpore le nouveau signal et le système moteur répond comme sil ny avait pas de perte de sensation dans le pied et retrouve sa marche normale.
