An electric wire for communication 1 has: a twisted pair wire 10 made by twisting together a pair of insulated wires 11,11, comprising a conductor 12 that has a tensile strength of 400 MPa or greater, and an insulating coating 13 for coating the periphery of the conductor 12; and a sheath 30 made of an insulating material having a dielectric loss tangent of 0.0001 or greater for coating the periphery of the twisted pair wire 10. The electric wire for communication 1 has characteristic impedance in the range of 100 ±10Ω.
