A prosthetic valve including a self-expanding frame having a superior end, aninferiorend, and a midsection therebetween. The frame has an expanded configurationand a collapsedconfiguration. The collapsed configuration adapted to be delivered to apatient's heart, and theexpanded configuration adapted to anchor the self-expanding frame in thepatient's heart. Theframe includes a self-expanding atrial skirt adjacent the superior end. Theatrial skirt forms aflanged region after self-expansion thereof. The flanged region configured toanchor theself-expanding frame to an atrial surface of the heart and the flanged regioncomprises an edge of theflange. The frame also includes a self-expanding ventricular skirt adjacentthe inferior end. Theventricular skirt anchors the self-expanding frame to a ventricular surface ofthe heart afterself-expansion thereof. The frame also includes a first self-expanding tabadjacent the inferior endand coupled with the ventricular skirt. The first self-expanding tab has a tipand a base. The firstself-expanding tab radially self-expands when a constraint is removedtherefrom. A receptacle isformed by an area bounded by an outer surface of the atrial skirt, an outersurface of theventricular skirt, and an inner surface of the first tab. A window adapted forreceiving the valveleaflet is defined by a gap between the edge of the flange and the tip of thefirst tab. The gap ismaximized when the tip of the first tab is unconstrained and the base of thefirst tab is at leastpartially constrained. The gap is minimized when tip of the first tab isunconstrained and thebase of the first tab is also unconstrained.
